In a crisis

When 988 / 911 are the right step, what Nyra does (and does not do) in those moments.

Updated June 15, 2026

Nyra is not monitored in real time. Nobody is watching your reflections as you type. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, the help you need right now is a phone call, not an app.

Call or text 988. Call 911.

  • 988 is the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. You can call or text it, 24 hours a day, for free, anywhere in the US. You will reach a trained counselor.
  • 911 is for an immediate emergency, when you or someone near you is in danger right now.

Both are reachable from every screen in the Nyra app. They are always one tap away.

What Nyra does in those moments

If a reflection signals a crisis, the app surfaces these numbers immediately. Your clinician is alerted on their next sign-in. That alert is not instant and it is not a substitute for emergency help, which is why the phone numbers come first, on every screen.

What Nyra does not do

  • It does not monitor you in real time. There is no one on the other end of a reflection.
  • It does not call anyone for you, and it does not dispatch help on your behalf.
  • It does not diagnose you, and it never tells you what you have.

The design is honest about its limits on purpose. When the moment is urgent, 988 and 911 are the right step, and they are built into every screen so you never have to go looking.
